Welcome to the Campaign
to Elect Abel Guillen
for Peralta Community College Board of Trustees
As the first member of my
family to graduate from college, I understand the barriers to education
faced by today’s students. As the product of local public
schools, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to help others who rely
on public education.
I received a BA and a Master’s
in Public Policy from UC Berkeley, where I led the student recruitment
and retention center and fought to expand student opportunities.
For the last six years I have continued my advocacy for students by
working as an educational finance advisor for California’s community
college and school districts. During that time I have raised $2.2
billion for school construction and modernization.
Through my work, I have helped
improve educational opportunities for thousands of students across
California, and now I would like to do the same in my own
community.
The Peralta Community College
District is not living up to its potential. The transfer rate to
four-year colleges and universities is declining sharply, enrollment is
far below what it should be, and financial decisions are made without
the accountability and transparency that the community deserves.
There is a need for
change.
I hope that you’ll look around
this website, learn more about my campaign, and join with me in this
election to make our community colleges more relevant to today’s
students, fair to teachers and staff, and transparent and accountable
to the entire community.
Thank you for your interest.
